Alans Blog Mon 7 July 2008 At last an update I hear you say! Sorry for the delay
but so much to do and it would seem so little time in which to do it.
Stacks of gigs lately, most of which have been very very enjoyable,
and the cakes keep a comin’. A cracker at the Axe on Tumbles
Birthday, it lasted until the Thursday! It seems the summer has crept up rather too quickly and
it is really “Gig mode” from now til September. I guess Euro 2008
closely followed by a fantastic Wimbledon may have a little to do with
that! The trip to Ireland is looming, it becomes more exciting when
the tickets arrive which they did this week and it seems quite a few
of you are travelling there too, I’m sure we wont regret it!!! Have been having a few get togethers with Blacky, Phil Evans and Nick Bayes recently, Phil plays electric & acoustic, Nick plays bass & mandola and well, Blacky is Blacky. Some of the music we are making is starting to sound good and we are planning a few gigs together over the summer and will be at The Sidmouth Festival in August.

Devon’s Alan West is a UK treasure waiting to be discovered by the public at large. His deep, resourceful and startling voice brings a touch of gritty realism to the songs of such cult heroes as Hugh Moffatt, Tom Russell, Guy Clark, Jimmy Payne, Chris Knight, Rodney Crowell and others. Gifted with excellent vocal skills (particularly his articulation, timing, breath control and delivery), Alan introduces to the Americana country genre a refreshing individuality, plus a determination not to do stereotypical or formulaic material. Oft times, when he’s singing a poignant ballad from the likes of Jimmy Buffett, Jim Almand or Darden Smith you can virtually hear a pin drop in the rowdiest of live venues. |
|||
| I’ve
been writing about music and promoting gigs for close on forty-five
years. During that time I’ve come across some quite remarkable
vocalists, and I would place Alan West in the top echelons of singers
that I admire and love to introduce to non-believers. He possesses one
of the deepest, emotional voices you’re ever likely to hear, and yet
he makes it all seem so easy.
When he relates a powerful story ballad such as the Dave Loggins’ classic Please Come To Boston or Hugh Moffatt’s How Could I Love Her So Much, you find yourself totally captivated until the very last word; you’ll be unable to eat, drink or talk until the last note has faded away. |
|||
|
Only
the very finest song interpreters have the ability to achieve that.
Alan West is such an interpreter and has been delighting a small but
growing following for close on twenty years with his inspired mix of
story songs, uptempo country-rockers and lyrical gems.
