Alans Blog Thurs 1 May  2008

And there it was gone!!

A week on the road with Hal Ketchum, what a blast!  A huge THANK YOU to Brian, Liam, Casper, Brendan and Hal and the band for making it the best gigging experience of my life. Their attention to detail was astonishing and both John and I are eternally grateful, ta!

A bit more news on the album. Have just received the first draft of my first record contract, hey hey!! I am hoping I have also found that elusive person who believes enough in me to come on board in a management capacity. We will be meeting again next week, again, watch this space!!

A shortish blog this week, still coming down! Off to The Ax now for our regular Thursday and a busy weekend ahead, hopefully see you there?

As always your comments are always welcome, you can mail me at alan@alanwest.co.uk anytime,

Look forward to hearing from you,

Take Care

Alan

Devon’s Alan West is a UK treasure waiting to be discovered by the public at large. His deep, resourceful and startling voice brings a touch of gritty realism to the songs of such cult heroes as Hugh Moffatt, Tom Russell, Guy Clark, Jimmy Payne, Chris Knight, Rodney Crowell and others.

Gifted with excellent vocal skills (particularly his articulation, timing, breath control and delivery), Alan introduces to the Americana country genre a refreshing individuality, plus a determination not to do stereotypical or formulaic material. Oft times, when he’s singing a poignant ballad from the likes of Jimmy Buffett, Jim Almand or Darden Smith you can virtually hear a pin drop in the rowdiest of live venues.

I’ve been writing about music and promoting gigs for close on forty-five years. During that time I’ve come across some quite remarkable vocalists, and I would place Alan West in the top echelons of singers that I admire and love to introduce to non-believers. He possesses one of the deepest, emotional voices you’re ever likely to hear, and yet he makes it all seem so easy.

When he relates a powerful story ballad such as the Dave Loggins’ classic Please Come To Boston or Hugh Moffatt’s How Could I Love Her So Much, you find yourself totally captivated until the very last word; you’ll be unable to eat, drink or talk until the last note has faded away.

Only the very finest song interpreters have the ability to achieve that. Alan West is such an interpreter and has been delighting a small but growing following for close on twenty years with his inspired mix of story songs, uptempo country-rockers and lyrical gems.
